ComSoc events
Unfortunately the Android App didn't really reach a stage at which i was really comfortable with and I dont think I could've released it to a good standard to actually get a playbook so I decided I needed to focus on my uni work as well as the event we're planning for ComSoc.
I've wanted to do an event for a charity event known as Extra-Life for quite a while and this is my chance to really make a big push for this event. We've got a date in mind but we've got to talk to various members of the Union and staff within the Uni before we can actually confirm the date etc. I dont want to reveal all the details but we've got a lot of great stuff planned and there's a lot of stuff to do to ensure it goes to plan.
I think I'm going to be quite busy with this event for the next couple week combined with other work and internship hunting on top of that. I'll give some updates on it as I go along as well as any progress on the Android App if i get a chance to actually finish it. I might just release a version for WP7 and Android. I'll have to see.

System.out.println("Hello World!");
So, i was told it would be a good idea to start a dev blog and seeing as I'm tied into the Google world, I thought I might as well opt for blogger rather than Wordpress. But I digress(and believe me there will be many digressions). My name is Arjun Taheem as you might've guessed and I'm currently a 2nd year student at Hull Uni studying Computer Science.
I've mainly done stuff like C#, OpenGL, Prolog and some basic PHP/MySQL/HTML/CSS (although i am brushing up on Javascript thanks to this gem) but since Blackberry are doing a nice promo to offer a free tablet for people who develop an android app for there playbook, I thought i might as well delve into some Java. Although I've heard its quite bitter at times, it fuels pretty much all Android apps so I thought I'd better hop on there.

I'm also a massive fan of mobile stuff. Seriously I've managed to sell touch screen phones to friends who hate touch screens/smart phones on multiple occasions and I look up this stuff every day. I love the openness of Android, the integrated and beautiful experience of Windows Phone and iOS is good for gaming apps. Its pretty much in that order of what smartphone OS I personally prefer. And please understand this is a preference, I genuinely think that Windows Phone is actually a more cohesive and integrated OS than Android or iOS, it just doesnt have the apps for me personally. I was hoping to help out with the app situation with making my first (mediocre) mobile app for windows phone but this Playbook promotion got the better of me so I switched to an Android tablet app. And tablets are pretty cool...
Anyway enough talk, I'm going to bury myself in the links i saved in my java bookmarks folder and get started with eclipse. I realise this isnt the best time to start programming but ah well. Programmers are often nocturnal creatures. ;)
